The library & cultural heritage sector responds to the European Commission proposal on copyright

Wednesday, December 21, 2016 - 14:15

The European Commission published its long awaited proposal for reform to the European copyright framework in September 2016.

There are many issues at stake for Europe's library and cultural heritage sector, notably concerning exceptions and limitations which support work such as preservation, text and data mining, digitisation and cross-border document supply - but the Commission's proposal leaves a lot to be desired.

The proposal is now in the hand of the European Parliament, and along with our partners IFLA, EBLIDA, LIBER and Europeana, PL2020 will be working to promote the interests of Europe's libraries to ensure a copyright system that works for the sector.  Our joint position paper which outlines areas for improvement in more detail can be found here.
